Before Monday’s game, the first of an important stretch of eight, manager Clint Hurdle preached patience.
“Our message has always been to go out and work hard to play better baseball today, because you can’t win Thursday’s game today,” Hurdle said. “We won a game yesterday. That won’t help us today.”
They did win two consecutive games for the first time in nearly a month, beating the Washington Nationals, 6-3, in front of 14,073 at PNC Park.
“I think right now we have to take it one game at a time and win a couple in a row,” Jordy Mercer said before the game.
