The Pittsburgh Pirates made a series of roster moves at the major league level on Monday, including placing third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes on the injured list with low back inflammation.
Jason Mackey of the Post-Gazette reported over the weekend that Hayes has been dealing with a back issue all year. Hayes said in the story that his discs in his lower back are compressing, and that it has “lost its jelly stuff”. Hayes said that his issue makes him want to stay away from turning, which he has to do daily.
The Pirates selected the contract of outfielder Billy McKinney to replace Hayes on the active roster.
