The Pirates on Wednesday traded right-hander Shane Carle to the Atlanta Braves for a player to be named later or cash.
Carle, 26, joined the Pirates in a waiver claim earlier this month. They designated him for assignment Sunday to make room for the players coming back to Pittsburgh from the Houston Astros in the Gerrit Cole trade.
The Pirates originally drafted Carle in 2013, but traded him the following year to the Colorado Rockies for Rob Scahill. Carle debuted in 2017.
