Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette later confirmed the Pirates will receive cash considerations from the Angels in return.
Contreras was one of the main pieces of the Jameson Taillon trade in 2021, along with Miguel Yajure (now with Nippon Professional Baseball), Canaan Smith-Njigba (AAA), and Maikol Escotto (A+), but after debuting that September, he regressed quickly in the Major Leagues, going 9-12 with a 4.
