Pirates trade for Brady Dragmire, designate Phil Coke

The Pirates purchased minor league right-hander Brady Dragmire from the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Dragmire, acquired for an unknown amount of cash, received a spot on the 40-man roster. To clear that spot, the Pirates designated left-hander Phil Coke for assignment.

The Blue Jays drafted Dragmire out of Bradshaw Christian High in Sacramento, Calif., in the 17th round in 2011. In 2016, his first season above Class A, Dragmire posted a 4.38 ERA in 72 innings, spread across 45 relief appearances, with a 1.47 WHIP. He struck out 5.1 batters per nine and walked 3.
