NEW YORK — The location surprised Jeff Branson. Tucked into the corner of Chelsea Market, a plaza on Ninth Avenue in Manhattan near the Hudson River, is the building that houses Major League Baseball’s replay operations center. Some of the Pirates coaches and video staff visited the center Wednesday morning while in town to play the New York Mets.
“It looks like a giant room with a bunch of TV monitors,” said Branson, the Pirates’ hitting coach. “It’s neat.”
MLB introduced a vast expansion of instant replay in 2014 that allowed managers to challenge most calls on the field.
