ST. LOUIS — Colin Moran saved the Pirates the indignity of being no-hit, but he couldn’t save them from dropping the series.
St. Louis Cardinals starter Michael Wacha took a no-hitter into the ninth Sunday during a 5-0 defeat of the Pirates at Busch Stadium. The Pirates lost three of the four games in the series, have dropped 12 out of 16 and are now only one game better than .500.
The 6-foot-6 righty’s changeup has bedeviled the Pirates since Wacha debuted in 2013. Sunday, he worked quickly and mixed the changeup with a cutter, a curveball and a fastball, all of them well located.
