Pirates' sloppy fielding leads to 4-2 loss to Cardinals

ST. LOUIS — Yadier Molina, the aging St. Louis Cardinals catcher, doesn’t run much anymore. With 12 years of wear and tear on his knees, Molina is known more for his cannon arm than his foot speed. So,Wednesday night must have felt like a marathon.

In a 4-2 Cardinals win at Busch Stadium, Molina tripled in one at-bat and stole third later. It was all due to the Pirates olé defense, which crippled another fine start by Gerrit Cole. On the triple, Gregory Polanco let the ball bounce right past him. On the steal, the ball beat Molina, but Aramis Ramirez’s high tag didn’t.
