Pirates sign World Series champion Andrew Heaney

The Pittsburgh Pirates are fortifying the back end of their rotation by signing veteran starting pitcher Andrew Heaney to a one-year deal worth $5.25 million.

Heaney, 33, spent the past two seasons with the Texas Rangers, where he won a World Series in 2023.

Pirates general manager Ben Cherington is excited about the addition of Heaney and where the pitching staff is going for the upcoming season.

“Always liked the fit,” general manager Ben Cherington said via MLB.com reporter Alex Stumpf.

“His specific pitch repertoire, style, obviously we talked about the left-handed thing at PNC [Park].
