Pirates sign Ryan Vogelsong to one-year deal

Welcome home, Ryan Vogelsong.

The Pirates signed the 38-year-old right-hander, a Kutztown, Pa., native, to a one-year free-agent deal Friday to once again fill their starting rotation. Vogelsong pitched for the Pirates from 2001 to 2006 before playing in Japan and returning to the majors with the San Francisco Giants.

Vogelsong, a fifth-round draft pick in 1998, went 9-11 with a 4.67 ERA in 33 appearances, 22 starts last season for the Giants. Vogelsong was an All-Star in 2011 and won World Series titles with the Giants in 2012 and 2014.

He likely will join Gerrit Cole, Francisco Liriano, Jon Niese and Jeff Locke in the Pirates starting rotation.
