The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Wednesday afternoon that catcher John Bormann has cleared waivers and he has been sent outright to Bradenton. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster, though there was already an open spot before the move, so it now sits at 38 players.
Bormann got an emergency call-up to the majors on Sunday due to an injury to Francisco Cervelli. Due to the timing of the Pirates finding out Cervelli couldn't play, they needed to get someone to Miami immediately and Bormann and the Bradenton Marauders were in Port Charlotte, Fla. He drove over that morning with coach Adam Godwin and was in the dugout by the third inning.
