Pirates score winning run on hit-by-pitch to take fifth consecutive victory

In the top of Saturday’s eighth inning, a Giant-turned-Pirate reliever let San Francisco back in the game. In the bottom half, a Pirate-turned-Giant returned the favor.

Tony Watson hit Jordy Mercer with the bases loaded to break a tie in the Pirates’ 6-5 victory at PNC Park. The Pirates (23-16) won their fifth game in a row and sixth out of seven, while the Giants dropped their sixth consecutive game.

Former Giant George Kontos strung together six appearances in late April and early May without being charged with a run, but he has now allowed a run in three of his past four outings.
