Pirates score four in the ninth in 5-3 comeback victory

NEW YORK — Futile for seven innings against Zack Wheeler Wednesday night, the Pirates came to life once the New York Mets bullpen got involved.

A four-run ninth inning brought the Pirates from down 3-1 to a 5-3 victory at Citi Field. They took two out of three games against the Mets and have a day off Thursday before continuing their road trip in San Diego.

Mets closer Jeurys Familia recorded five outs Tuesday night in the Mets’ extra-innings victory. Wednesday, he faced four batters and retired none of them.

The Pirates trailed 3-1 after eight.
