According to Liz Bloom of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Pirates put outfielder Bryce Brentz on outright waivers on Saturday. Brentz is out of minor league options. He was competing for the final bench spot, which could go to Jose Osuna if the Pirates decide to keep a five-man bench, or they might decide to go with an eight-man bullpen. Opening Day is on March 29th, so they will need to make their final roster decisions soon.
Earlier today, four players were cut from Major League Spring Training, leaving the active roster at 33 spots at the time.
