Pirates report card: Aug. 29-Sept. 4, 2016

In this weekly Monday feature, Post-Gazette writers Bill Brink and Stephen J. Nesbitt look back at the week that was and grade the Pirates’ performances in a few key areas.

An 0-6 week was not exactly what the doctor had ordered for this sputtering Pirates ball club. After being swept by the Chicago Cubs on the road and the Milwaukee Brewers at home, the Pirates, at 67-67, open a three-game series today against the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park.

The Pirates entered the week ½ game out of the second wild-card spot and exited 3½ out.
