A 15-year naming rights agreement for the Pirates’ spring training stadium replaces McKechnie Field with LECOM Park, the Pirates announced today.
LECOM is short for Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
“LECOM Park is our organization’s southern home and we are proud to announce this agreement with a respected and established brand that has roots in Western Pennsylvania and has quickly become a leader in education in the Bradenton area,” Pirates President Frank Coonelly said in a statement announcing the change.
The field was named after former Pirates manager Bill McKechnie, who won 409 games with Pittsburgh and was at the helm for a World Series title in 1925.
