Pirates Prospects has learned that the Pittsburgh Pirates released seven minor league players on Wednesday morning. Outfielders Barrett Barnes, Michael Suchy and Ty Moore, pitchers Cody Dickson, John Stilson and Yunior Montero, and 1B/C Jose Barraza have all been released.
Barnes is the biggest name here obviously. He was drafted 45th overall in the 2012 draft, as a toolsy outfielder out of Texas Tech. Injuries decimated his career and he only had one season where he was healthy for most of the year. In 2016, he hit .306/.377/.477 for Altoona, but then the injuries returned last year and by the time that the playoffs came around, he was on the bench for Indianapolis.
