MILWAUKEE — After Francisco Liriano’s neck tightness forced the Pirates to use three relievers for a combined eight innings Saturday night, they added a reinforcement Sunday, promoting right-hander Wilfredo Boscan from Class AAA Indianapolis.
Boscan, who was sent to the minors Monday, had not spent the requisite 10 days on optional assignment and could not be recalled unless the Pirates put a player on the major league disabled list, so that’s exactly what they did. Outfielder Gorkys Hernandez went on the 15-day DL because of a left shoulder injury
Boscan, 25, joins the Pirates for third time this season, but has not yet pitched for them – or any team in the majors.
