CHICAGO — Order was restored to the Pirates roster today.
The Pirates recalled utility man Cole Figueroa and optioned left-handed reliever Kyle Lobstein to Class AAA Indianapolis, rebalancing the 25-man roster with five men on the bench and seven in the bullpen. The Pirates used an eight-man bullpen for the past month, the longest such stretch in Clint Hurdle’s managerial career.
Figueroa made the Pirates opening-day roster but was 0 for 9 in eight appearances. He was optioned to Indianapolis April 22 and caught fire at the plate, batting .340 in 13 games in the minors.
