The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes from Indianapolis. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, outfielder Jordan Luplow has been optioned to Indianapolis.
The Pirates also announced that Casey Sadler has cleared waivers and he has been sent outright to Indianapolis. Since this is his second outright assignment, he can opt for free agency instead, but that seems highly unlikely this late in the season with a chance to pitch in the playoffs with Indianapolis and possibly return to Pittsburgh in September if needed.
Holmes has been pitching in relief with Indianapolis since returning from his spot start with the Pirates.
