KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Pirates selected infielder Pedro Florimon’s contract from Class AAA Indianapolis Wednesday to rebalance the roster with a 13th position player. They optioned right-hander Wilfredo Boscan to Indianapolis and designated for assignment left-hander Jayson Aquino to make room for Florimon on the 40-man roster.
Florimon, the Minnesota Twins’ opening-day shortstop last season, will start there tonight against the Kansas City Royals, giving Jung Ho Kang a breather after consecutive starts at shortstop for the first time since late May.
The report on Florimon, 28, according to manager Clint Hurdle, is he’s an “above-average defender across the board.
