BRADENTON, Fla. — Joe Musgrove said Wednesday he believes he will be ready for the start of the season despite a slower buildup this spring due to his postseason workload and shoulder soreness.
“I don’t think there’s anything that’s going to hold me back unless something were to pop up in the next couple weeks here,” he said. “I feel like I’ll be ready to break with the team.”
Musgrove threw live batting practice recently and plans to pitch three innings Friday, probably in a simulated game at Pirate City. Coaches can manipulate counts and baserunners to keep Musgrove’s pitch count in check and ensure the appropriate workload.
