CINCINNATI—The Pirates this morning optioned right-hander Wilfredo Boscan to Class AAA Indianapolis.
Boscan, recalled prior to Sunday’s game to help bolster a bullpen that covered 7 2/3 innings Saturday night, did not pitch. He has twice joined the Pirates this season, but has not pitched in the majors after nine years in professional baseball.
The Pirates did not make a corresponding move and won’t do so until Friday, before beginning their series against the Brewers in Milwaukee. They optioned infielder Steve Lombardozzi to Indianapolis on Sunday to make room for Boscan.
