Pirates option Phil Gosselin to clear roster spot for Jameson Taillon

To make room on the roster for right-hander Jameson Taillon, who will pitch Monday night in his first start after May 8 surgery for testicular cancer, the Pirates optioned infielder Phil Gosselin to Class AAA Indianapolis.

Gosselin, a member of the opening day roster, batted .135 for the Pirates before being sent to Indianapolis in mid May. He returned to the Pirates last week after batting .310 in 22 games for the Indians, but was 1 for 8 in five appearances in the majors this month.

The move leaves the Pirates’ roster with one more reliever than usual, as they called up A.
