The Pirates have optioned utility player Jose Osuna to make room for Starling Marte, who comes off the disabled list Saturday.
In 14 games for the Pirates this season, Osuna is hitting .241 with two homers and six RBIs. He has been promoted twice: first as a 26th man for a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers and then during a stretch when the Pirates didn’t need a fifth starting pitcher due to off days.
Marte went on the disabled list with a right oblique strain. Austin Meadows was called up as his replacement. It’s unclear what the moves mean for Meadows’ role with the team.
