The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned Austin Meadows to Indianapolis on Sunday. To take his place on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Tanner Anderson has been recalled.
This move with Meadows has been expected with the All-Star break coming up and him not starting recently. It came a day earlier due to the bullpen getting a lot of work during yesterday's doubleheader when everyone except Steven Brault pitched. Anderson has pitched just one inning in the last seven days, so if he's needed to go multiple innings today, he's available for that role.
Meadows is hitting .250/.288/.317 over his last 34 games and hasn't started in a week, so it will do him well to get regular at-bats.
