Pirates notebook: Vogelsong OK with getting mistakes out of the way

BRADENTON, Fla. — Pirates prospect Austin Meadows, an outfielder drafted ninth overall in 2013, injured his right eye while playing catch Tuesday at Pirate City. Initial tests showed an orbital fracture, but he’ll have further testing early next week in Pittsburgh.

Trainer Todd Tomczyk said it is too early to give a timetable for Meadows’ return. Doctors will to wait for swelling to subside before deciding whether the injury requires surgery. “Every injury has its own identity,” he said.

Meadows, 20, hit .307 with a .357 on-base percentage last season for high Class A Bradenton.
