The Pirates acquired minor league infielder Chris Bostick from the Washington Nationals Monday in a trade that sent minor league catcher Taylor Gushue and cash to Washington.
Bostick, 23, received a spot on the 40-man roster because otherwise he would be eligible for the Rule 5 draft, but won’t report to the Pirates. To make room, the club put Josh Harrison, who is out for the year because of a strained right groin, on the 60-day disabled list.
The trade increased the Pirates’ infield depth for 2017, both at the major league level and for Class AAA Indianapolis.
