The Pirates agreed Wednesday to a minor-league deal with free-agent outfielder Travis Snider, reacquiring a player they traded away in January.
“Excited to get back to work and be a part of this great organization,” Snider wrote in a text message.
When the Pirates sent Snider to the Baltimore Orioles for two minor league left-handed pitchers, they parted with an inexpensive fourth outfielder coming off a strong second half of the season who could serve as an insurance policy for Gregory Polanco in Polanco’s first full year in the majors. Snider hit relatively well early for the Orioles, albeit without any power, but his playing time diminished.
