Atlanta Braves president of baseball operations John Hart painted a grim but accurate picture of the challenges former Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez faced on any given night.
“Fredi was almost like the guy in the Dutch painting where the guy’s got his finger in the dike,” Hart said. “And it’s, leak over here, you plug this one, and then this one doesn’t work today.”
After an 8-5 loss to the Pirates Monday night at PNC Park lowered the Braves’ record to a major league-worst 9-28, the Braves fired Gonzalez shortly into his sixth season with the team.
