The Pirates’ series against the Miami Marlins in Puerto Rico is in jeopardy.
According to reports from Yahoo! Sports and The Associated Press, Major League Baseball could cancel the trip and move the two games between the Pirates and Marlins, scheduled for May 30-31, out of Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan because of continued concerns about the Zika virus.
Gerrit Cole, the Pirates’ union representative, declined to comment before an official decision had been made.
The trip was supposed to coincide with the celebration of Roberto Clemente Day in Clemente’s home country and return Major League Baseball to the island for the first time since 2010.
