If word hasn’t gotten out yet, it should soon. This Pirates outfield trio — Starling Marte, Andrew McCutchen and Gregory Polanco — is not one to be tested.
Friday night, Polanco threw out two Colorado Rockies runners to give the Pirates a National League-leading 30 outfield assists in 2015. With a month left in the regular season, the Pirates are on pace for 38 outfield helpers and already have their highest total since 2010.
Manager Clint Hurdle drew a comparison between Marte, McCutchen and Polanco and Toronto Blue Jays trio George Bell, Lloyd Moseby and Jesse Barfield, widely considered the best outfield trio of the 1980s.
