CHICAGO — After a baffling month of August, Gerrit Cole went on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of an elbow injury.
The Pirates announced that Cole had posterior inflammation in his right elbow. They did not say what caused the inflammation. The team made the move retroactive to Aug. 25, meaning Cole can return Sept. 9 at the earliest.
“Posterior” refers to the back of the elbow, near the lower end of the triceps muscle on the back of the upper arm. Cole went on the DL in June because of a triceps strain.
