MIAMI — Barry Bonds was surprised to hear Monday that it was the 30-year anniversary of his major league debut. He led off for the Pirates against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Orel Hershiser and played all 11 innings of a 6-4 loss at Three Rivers Stadium.
Bonds remembers other details from that day.
“I went 0 for 5 with three strikeouts,” he said, cracking a smile.
Standing in the home dugout Monday at Marlins Park, Bonds, a first-year Marlins hitting coach, reminisced about his years in Pittsburgh and with the Pirates organization.
