ST. LOUIS — Entering Busch Stadium for a three-game series a day after a strange ending involving a missed call and a too-late attempt to challenge, manager Clint Hurdle said the Pirates have strategies in place for such a scenario.
With a game tied at 3-3 Thursday in the ninth inning, St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina bounced a ball over the left-field wall and off a sign. It should have been a ground-rule double, but was ruled to have remained in play. Instead of runners on second and third, the Cardinals walked off with a 4-3 victory against the Cincinnati Reds.
