The Cleveland Indians announced on Tuesday afternoon that they picked up lefty reliever Jack Leathersich off of waivers and they also took back Rule 5 pick Jordan Milbrath. The Pirates placed both players on waivers yesterday and now have 37 active players on their 40-man roster.
Milbrath was selected in the Rule 5 draft this winter and lost out on a bullpen job, despite the Pirates going with an eight-man bullpen to start the season. This Spring Training, he had an 8.64 ERA in 8.1 innings over nine appearances, with eight walks and eight strikeouts.
Leathersich was one of the early cuts this Spring Training, which was a bit surprising due to his big league experience and lack of lefty relievers in camp.
