ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals scored their first three runs with home runs. The fourth and deciding run came across with some small ball.
Randal Grichuk’s RBI groundout in the eighth inning sent the Pirates to a 4-3 loss at Busch Stadium. They lost their fourth game in a row and new Cardinals reliever Juan Nicasio recorded his second save in as many days.
Paul DeJong doubled against George Kontos in the eighth. Jose Martinez’s grounder put him on third. The Pirates pulled their infield in and put three men on the left side, and sure enough, Grichuk hit it right there.
