Pirates injury updates: A.J. Schugel to resume playing catch

BRADENTON, Fla. — Pirates right-hander A.J. Schugel will play catch on flat ground Wednesday, the team’s director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said. It marks the first time Schugel will throw since he injured his right shoulder in a game on Feb. 25.

Tomcyzk said the team will evaluate how he responds to the session before mapping out a plan.

In addition, Tyler Glasnow (illness) is expected to throw a side session on Thursday. Joe Musgrove (shoulder) will start tomorrow and is no longer a medical concern; he is now in the “baseball build-up” phase, Tomcyzk said.
