Pirates hire Mike Mangan as assistant scouting director

The Pirates hired Mike Mangan, most recently a Toronto Blue Jays national crosschecker, as their assistant director of amateur scouting, the team announced today.

Mangan joined the Blue Jays in 1999 as an east regional scouting supervisor and became a national crosschecker – a scout who lends a second pair of eyes to augment the reports from regional scouts – in 2000. He scouted for the Cincinnati Reds from 1994-98.

The Pirates have not yet announced a replacement for strength and conditioning specialist Kiyoshi Momose, who joined the Boston Red Sox this week as their strength and conditioning coach.
