Pirates helping with Puerto Rico hurricane-relief efforts

The Pirates are lending a hand to the hurricane-relief efforts for Puerto Rico, gathering supplies at PNC Park.

Sean Rodriguez, Francisco Cervelli, third-base coach Joey Cora, interpreter Mike Gonzalez and owner Bob Nutting are among those who will make the trip to personally deliver supplies.

Word is Monday’s efforts were a great success, with Rodriguez particularly active moving goods around. The drive continues Tuesday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mazeroski Way outside the ballpark. The public is asked to bring new, unopened items, such as bottled water, non-perishable food, baby formula, diapers, hand sanitizer, garbage bags, pet food and batteries.
