Pirates halt A.J. Schugel's rehab assignment due to continued shoulder pain

The Pirates stopped right-hander A.J. Schugel’s rehab assignment Friday because the discomfort in his shoulder reoccurred.

Schugel left his first outing of spring training because of shoulder pain. He began a rehab assignment April 12 with Class A Bradenton and moved to Class AAA Indianapolis later in the month. In eight outings between the two, he allowed five runs and nine hits while striking out seven in 8u2154 innings.

Schugel pitched on back-to-back days Sunday and Monday, then had two days off. Thursday, he allowed two runs and two hits, and hit a batter, in one inning.
