There was no brawl after all, but two days after Anthony Rizzo’s controversial slide into Elias Diaz at home plate, tensions continued to flare at PNC Park Tuesday.
After reaching first on a single, Joe Musgrove slid into second baseman Javier Baez to break up a double play. Perhaps that sequence of events seemed a little uncouth, if not familiar, to Baez, who engaged Musgrove in conversation. The benches and the dugouts cleared, although no punch was thrown. The play was reviewed. The call?
“After review,” the public address announcer said, “it is not a reviewable play,” which was greeted by laughter from the crowd at PNC Park.
