CHICAGO — In extra innings, Jeff Locke had wriggled free. Two inning-ending outs at the plate, in the 10th and 12th innings, kept the Chicago Cubs off the board and the game tied. In the 13th, the Cubs finally snared him.
A two-run Cubs rally led to an 8-7 Pirates loss at Wrigley Field Monday night. The Pirates led until the ninth, when the Cubs forced extras. They took another lead in the 13th, but that lasted only minutes.
Dexter Fowler and Kris Bryant singled in the 13th against Locke. Anthony Rizzo’s single brought home the tying run, and Locke intentionally walked the switch-hitting Ben Zobrist to bring lefty Miguel Montero to the plate with the bases loaded and nobody out.
