NEW YORK — Against Bartolo Colon and the New York Mets’ two best relievers, the Pirates searched for baserunners Friday night. Once they worked into the middle relievers, they broke through.
The Pirates scored two runs in the 10th inning to break a tie and beat the Mets, 3-2, at Citi Field.
Chris Stewart, who went 2 for 4 Friday, singled off Bobby Parnell to start the 10th. Starling Marte pinch-ran and Francisco Cervelli pinch-hit, and the substitutions worked: With Marte running on the pitch, Cervelli singled, giving the Pirates first and third with no outs.
Gregory Polanco singled to center, breaking the tie.
