Pirates DFA Pedro Florimon to make room for pitcher Josh Wall

Shortly after midnight Wednesday morning, with the Pirates batting in the 15th inning, Pedro Florimon hit a single off of PNC Park’s right-field wall.

Florimon scored Francisco Cervelli, and the Pirates won, 9-8, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Pirates designated Florimon for assignment to create room for relief pitcher Josh Wall, who was promoted from Class AAA Indianapolis. Wall has appeared in 24 games this season for Indianapolis, getting 29 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings with a 2.93 ERA.

Including Tuesday’s game, Florimon, 28, batted .105 with a .401 OPS in 21 plate appearances this season for the Pirates.
