Pirates Designate Cole Tucker For Assignment

The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated infielder Cole Tucker for assignment, making room for newly acquired infielder Yu Chang.

Tucker had a .397 OPS in 63 plate appearances this year in the majors, putting him at a .573 OPS on his career over 469 plate appearances. In his return to Indianapolis, he has a .400 OPS in 42 plate appearances.

Previously a first round pick, Tucker has struggled to make the majors in a bench role, and has taken a step back this year. He’s probably going to fall behind other players on the depth chart in Pittsburgh, and would probably do best with a change of scenery at this point.
