Wednesday night’s wild-card game received the highest ever television rating for a wild-card game — though there have been only eight — and set the record for the largest cable TV audience for a Major League Baseball broadcast since 2011, according to a TBS press release citing Nielsen Media Research data.
The Pirates lost to the Chicago Cubs, 4-0, and were eliminated from the postseason.
The 26.2 household rating in Pittsburgh surpassed last year’s wild-card game rating in the market by 16 percent. The Pirates also played in the 2014 wild-card game, losing to the San Francisco Giants.
