The story of the weekend for the Pirates was their lack of timely hitting, thus leading to a series loss to the Reds. Sunday's game would be even more frustrating than yesterday's game, in that the Pirates were facing a minor league journeyman in Tim Melville, who was making his first big league start.
Melville certainly showed signs of nerves early on, as he was unable to find consistency in locating pitches. He would surrender three free passes in the first inning alone, and also added a wild pitch for good measure. The Pirates however, were not able to capitalize, and failed to bring across even one run.
