Pirates call up Jordan Luplow for the first time this season

The Pirates promoted outfielder Jordan Luplow from Class AAA Indianapolis Friday and sent righty Clay Holmes to the minors.

After posting a .282 on-base percentage and .230 slugging percentage with Indianapolis in April, Luplow hit .310/.386/.620 in May and .320/.409/.500 in June. Since May 1, he has a .412 OBP, a .330 average and eight home runs.

In 87 plate appearances in the majors last season, Luplow hit .205/.276/.385 with three home runs.

Holmes started Wednesday in place of the injured Joe Musgrove. He allowed four hits and five runs in 2u2153 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
