With a good start from Chad Kuhl, consecutive sacrifice flies in the sixth inning and a successful final three innings from their bullpen, the Pirates accomplished something they hadn’t done in a month: win two games in a row.
The Pirates overcame three errors Friday night to beat the Cincinnati Reds, 3-2, at PNC Park. They won back-to-back games for the first time since May 16 and 17, after which they were 26-17 and in first place. They then lost 18 of their next 25 and fell to fourth place.
“We’re not in a horrible place; we’re not in a good place,” manager Clint Hurdle said before the game.
